SKY FINALLY LANDS RIGHTS TO ENGLAND TOUR

Sky Sports has won live and exclusive rights to broadcast England’s tour of India.

Coverage starts next week with the First Test from Nagpur on Wednesday, March 1.

It is the first series in a four-year deal which includes England’s next series against India in 2009 as well as eight other international series, and Indian domestic cricket.

Digvijay Singh, CEO of Nimbus Sport, said: “Both Sky Sports and Nimbus Sport walked the extra mile to ensure that sports fans in the UK can view the best of Indian cricket."

The deal was signed last night with Nimbus, which paid the BCCI $612million for rights to India's home matches until 2010.

However, Nimbus chairman Harish Thawani had earlier indicated that Sky was out of the running for the rights after failing to meet Nimbus' $11million valuation, following an offer believed to be around $7million.

It leaves little time for Sky's production team and commentators to get organised before the first Test.

The commentary team includes four former England captains who will be flying out to India at the weekend.

In addition to Sky Sports, Nimbus Sport will be licensing a South Asian language network the rights to broadcast live the eight India home series not featuring England.

An announcement on this is due at a later date.
