He has been CEO of Sport England since 2003 and his role will be filled on an interim basis by Stephen Baddeley.
Draper has led Sport England through an extensive modernisation programme and helped focus the organisation on increasing participation in sport, through developing and promoting community sport.
Lord Carter of Coles, chair of Sport England, said: Under his leadership, Sport England has made considerable progress. I am in no doubt that today Sport England is in far better shape than it was before Roger joined us, and we wish him well at the LTA.”
Roger Draper said: “It has been a fantastic four years in one of the most exciting jobs in sport. I would like to thank all the people at Sport England for their support over the years and I look forward to continuing to work with the organisation in my new position at the LTA."
An open recruitment process will be held for the position of chief executive at Sport England in the near future.
