The funding will support UK athletics' business plan for the next three years and has been released following modernisation across the sport, as a result of recommendations made by Sir Andrew Foster in his 2004 review.
A total of £13.3million has been committed from the £21million Legacy fund promised to athletics, covering the three-year period from April 2006 until the end of March 2009.
The Legacy fund was created following the decision to withdraw from hosting the 2005 World Athletics Championships.
England Athletics is to receive a total of £1.345million of Lottery investment over the same three-year period, to support the establishment and resourcing of the new governing body and delivery of its business plan.
Underpinning overall priorities to grow athletics and increase success at an international level, the sport has also outlined a number of key work areas.
These include continued modernisation; talent identification and long-term athlete development; coach development and teacher education; a review of competition structures; and attracting new sources of funding into the sport.
