International Olympic Committee members voted 46-42 and 47-43 against baseball and softball respectively.
The decision to exclude the sports from London had been made in July but met with resistance from the governing bodies concerned and some IOC members.
The decision means London 2012 organisers can scrap costly plans for two temporary stadia in Regent's Park, expected to save £50million.
Baseball and softball will make their last appearance as Olympic sports in Beijing in 2008.
