In a first for a competition sponsor, Carling will place almost 900 match tickets - many including hospitality - in the hands of Manchester United and Wigan supporters in a bid to ensure as many fans as possible get to see the final.
More than 400 Manchester United fans and 400 Wigan fans will receive the tickets traditionally reserved for corporates, with 200 of both sets of fans treated to hospitality in suites at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
Carling’s board of directors have volunteered to give up their places in hospitality and will vacate the traditional sponsors’ Royal Box and surrounding VIP area. Only Peter Swinburn, Coors’ chief executive, will stay behind to carry out official duties, including presenting the trophy to the winning team.
Carling Cup sponsorship manager Richard Smith said: “We believe that by doing this we’re offering fans the best of both worlds - top class treatment in great surroundings with all of their mates but without the need to dress up for the occasion.
"Plus, with our hospitality facilities full of fans, hopefully everyone will be able to watch the match without being interrupted by a businessman clambering back to his seat halfway through the second half."
