NASCAR FAILS TO THROW OUT $400m LAWSUIT

NASCAR’s hopes of seeing a multi-million dollar lawsuit against it dismissed have been thrown out of court.

A federal judge on Friday tossed out the US motorsport’s efforts to have the $400m anti-trust lawsuit filed by Kentucky Speedway dismissed.
The allegations NASCAR must now answer revolve around claims it conspired with International Speedway to decide which tracks should host Nextel Cup races.
Kentucky Speedway chiefs were left fuming after being omitted from the calendar, despite claiming they had better facilities than other included circuits. NASCAR denies the claims.
However, the case may not get to trial for at least another year.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said: “NASCAR will vigorously defend itself.
“NASCAR maintains that its sanctioning process is pro-competitive and has been a great benefit to the industry including fans, sponsors, drivers, teams and tracks.
“On the other hand, the Kentucky Speedway lawsuit, which is seeking a bid system, would likely provide a short-term financial windfall to NASCAR but would be disastrous to the long-term health of the sport.”
