MOBILE V BROADBAND DEBATE AT TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

Industry experts are set to debate whether mobile will be the ultimate victor in the quest to monetise interest from sports fans, or if there's still plenty of life left in broadband services.

Speaking at Sport and Technology: The Conference 2006, in association with BT Media and Broadcast on February 23, Hans van Raaij, IT manager for Dutch soccer team PSV Eindhoven will represent the views of rights owners by discussing his thoughts on both delivery mechanisms on the panel entitled 'Is mobile the new broadband?'.

Technology is at the heart of PSV Eindhoven, whose home, the Philips Stadium, has had WiFi installed since 2003. "PSV has a tradition of harnessing the latest technologies for both our fans and our commercial partners," says Hans.

He will be joined by representatives from several well-known providers of wireless and broadband solutions to the sports industry - David Jamieson, head of media solutions at BT Media and Broadcast; Will Muirhead, chief executive of Sportev; and Oliver Slipper, commercial director of Premium TV.

Moderated by Tony Singh, associate, Spectrum Strategy Consulting, areas to be addressed: 'Are broadband services becoming outmoded in favour of mobile/wireless services?' 'What are the major innovations in mobile?' 'How does mobile billing compare to broadband?' 'What do mobile sports users want compared with broadband sports users?' 'When will mobile TV really take off?' 'Will convergence ever really happen?' 'What should broadcasters do in order to not lose out on these growing markets?'

Other speakers include representatives from FIFA, the BBC, the Australian Football League, Sports Resource Group, Deltatre, Hawk-Eye Innovations, Cat Games, Offshore Challenges Group, Kirkpatrick and Lockheart, Wasserman Media Group and Clintons Solicitors.
