STEWART TO STEP DOWN FROM BRDC

Sir Jackie Stewart has decided not to seek re-election to the presidency of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC).

The former world champion last year needed to win a vote of confidence among members, after disagreement about the handling of negotiations with Bernie Ecclestone over the future of the British Grand Prix.

Stewart will have been in the role for six years when he steps down at the club's Spring AGM.

The BRDC, which owns the Silverstone circuit, is involved with plans to expand and improve the venue.
