Italy has spent more than £60million on security ahead of the Torino Winter Olympic Games.
And the figure is set to increase, according to interior minister Giuseppe Pisanu.
He said he was "reasonably optimistic" about the ability of officials to combat any international terrorism.
He stressed that while there were no specific terrorist threats, Islamic terror groups and anarchists on the far left were being monitored by the authorities.
