NEW MOVE NETS KARATE £1.5MILLION

Karate England, the recently established governing body for the sport of karate in England, will receive £1.5 million in funding from Sport England over the next three years.

Roger Draper, Sport England’s chief executive, said that the award recognised the progress made by the sport towards modernisation and improved governance.

“With the creation of Karate England, the sport has demonstrated its intention and commitment to modernising its administration and structures, which will be of benefit to all stakeholders.

“This investment has been made against a well structured and professional business plan and will be used to support the work of the governing body in developing the sport,” said Draper.

Sport England’s investment of £500,000 per year will cover the period from April 2006 through to the end of March 2009.
