Its intention was made public when more than 40 people from Dominica’s public and private sector gathered in Roseau to listen to the Stakeholders Road Show presentation by ICC CWC 2007 managing director and CEO Chris Dehring and commercial manager Stephen Price.
While not being among the nine host venues for the tournament, Dominicans believe they have an integral role to play in ensuring its success and wish to capitalise on the unprecedented opportunity next year.
“They are looking at the possibility of helping nearby host venues, particularly Antigua and Saint Lucia, fulfill their accommodation complements,” revealed Price, adding that the idea is to make accommodation part of a package deal.
“The thought is that accommodation could be tied into packages which would include ferry rides between Dominica and the various host venues, possibly with parties being held aboard the ferries.”
The World Cup coincides with Dominica’s annual carnival and officials there are also considering ways of showcasing their culture to the global audience that will be in the region.
