It will feature all the major badminton events including the IBF World Championships, the European and Asian Championships, Thomas & Uber Cup, the All England Championships, Sudirman Cup as well as the major IBF World Grand Prix tournaments from around the world.
The new show entitled 'World of Badminton' is designed to appeal a wider audience, reflecting the fact that badminton jumped from 26th to 14th in terms of total viewing hours globally from the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens,” said Anders BjC6rkman, director of television properties at IEC in Sports.
“The programme will be produced in-house in IEC Stockholm’s production facility and will feature interviews and behind-the-scenes stories, training and technique segments. The features will complement the match action from the major competitions from around the globe,” says Daniel Franck, head of production at IEC in Sports.
There will be a total of 12 shows of 26 minutes, each produced and distributed on a monthly basis starting from the end of January 2006.
The first group of broadcasters have already been confirmed in Scandinavia, South East Asia and the Middle East and will be announced shortly.
IEC currently handles the exclusive television distribution rights for more than 12 IBF Grand Prix events as well as the Asian and European Championships.
In December 2005, the International Badminton Federation (IBF) appointed IEC to exclusively distribute the international television rights in Europe to all the major IBF tournaments including the World Championships, Sudirman Cup and Thomas & Uber Cup.
