Organisers want the cash to help identify and fund talented athletes ahead of the Games as the host nation looks to finish fourth in the medal table.
The IOC president said: “I support the BOA in this. The money is very much needed. Good results for the host nation are vital for the success of the Games.
“The Games will not be successful if they are not successful for GB athletes. It's as simple as that.”
Jacques Rogge has said he fully supports a bid by the London organisers of the 2012 Olympic Games for £100m in extra funding.
