US SOCCER SCORES LABOUR DEAL

A new labour deal has been agreed between US Soccer and the national team’s players’ association.

The collective bargaining deal agreed with the US National Soccer Team Players’ Association (USNSTPA) runs through until the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The deal follows a dispute over pay in which US Soccer had threatened to replace regular national team members during the recent successful World Cup qualifying campaign.
US Soccer president Dr. S. Robert Contiguglia said: “We have been confident throughout this process that an amicable agreement would be reached that would positively address the desires of both parties, and that is what we have accomplished together.”
USNSTPA executive director Mark Levinstein added: “We hope this agreement will be the first step in bringing together the millions of individuals and many organisations that support soccer in the United States to work to advance our sport.”
