AUSSIE DELAY ON 2011 DECISION

Australian cricket chiefs say they will not make an announcement until February over possible plans to bid for the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Australia is understood to be keen to put forward a joint bid with neighbours New Zealand to host the event – but says it remains undecided whether to push ahead with the prosposals.

Under the ICC's current rotation policy, Australia is set to host the event. However, with the ICC’s existing deal with commercial arm Global Cricket Corporation expiring after the 2007 event, some have expressed doubts as to the way future events are awarded.

India has made no secret of its desire to see the rules changed to the sub-continent’s benefit.

Chief executive James Sutherland said: “We are still waiting on the ICC to give us clear guidance on the bidding process and what we will need to do. We remain interested in hosting one of the ICC’s major events but we will likely wait until a chief executives meeting in February before making a firm decision.”
