RUGBY WORLD CUP RIGHTS AWARDED IN NEW ZEALAND

CanWest's TV3 has won all broadcasting rights for New Zealand in the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

The commercial value of the deal was not disclosed.

The rights enable TV3 to screen all 2007 World Cup games involving New Zealand live, including all quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.

New Zealand will host the 2011 Rugby World Cup while the 2007 tournament will be played in France.

“This is a significant and historical achievement for TV3, and I am delighted our track record as the major free-to-air broadcaster of rugby in New Zealand has been endorsed with this announcement,” said CanWest MediaWorks CEO, Brent Impey.
