The VELUX 5 Oceans is the most established and continuously run single-handed round the world yacht race, and with new sponsors onboard Clipper Ventures believes it has the potential to become one of the best run events in the sailing calendar.
The race sets off from Bilbao, Spain in October 2006, and visits Australia and the United States.
Pitch has been appointed on an 18-month contract to create and oversee an international media and communications strategy for the VELUX 5 Oceans campaign.
It will be responsible for maximising publicity opportunities, managing all media requests during the race, including crisis communication, and running a press office and press conferences at race start and finish and stopover ports.
Pitch will work in conjunction with Clipper Ventures, the main race sponsor VELUX, all stopover ports and related marketing advisors, to promote media interest and coverage.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, founder of AIM-listed Clipper Ventures, said: “We have restructured, rebranded and rejuvenated this classic yachting event, and Pitch will play a key role in taking this race forward.”
