KBS SIGNS WORLD CUP DEALS FOR US AND CANADA

KBS America has agreed a deal for the exclusive Korean language broadcast rights to the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

America's largest Korean language television network will broadcast various FIFA World Cup events via terrestrial, cable and satellite media platforms in the US and Canada.

It includes the rights to all 64 World Cup matches, the opening and closing ceremonies and the Final Draw on December 9, 2005 at the Leipzig Trade Fair.

KBS has also acquired full access to the official 2006 FIFA World Cup preview series. The show consists of 16 x 26-minute programmes and will be exclusively distributed by FIFA's agents Infront in February/March 2006.

Jeannie Jo, marketing director of KBS, said: “World Cup Soccer is the most-watched sporting event among Koreans, both in Korea and the US.

"This agreement is historic because it is the first time the 1.5 million Korean Americans in the U.S. will have the opportunity to view the World Cup in their own language.“

KBS America, located in Los Angeles, was established in August, 2004 as the US division of KBS.
