The deal, an ‘eight-figure US dollar partnership’ was agreed with the sport’s governing body, the Japan Volleyball Association and the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).
FIVB president Ruben Acosta said: “Japan is a stronghold for volleyball. This agreement is good news for volleyball in Japan and for our sport worldwide.”
Japan will host the event for the second consecutive time – after it was previously confirmed of the host of the 2006 event.
An announcement on the host of the 2010 men’s tournament is expected within the next few weeks. Italy is thought to be favourite.
The FC)dC)ration Internationale de Volleyball has confirmed Japan will stage the Women’s Volleyball World Championship in 2010.
