FIFA NETS BIG INCREASE FOR WORLD CUP RIGHTS

Tagged in , &

FIFA is set to earn $1.7billion from its sale of broadcasting rights for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, according to a study by consultants Deloitte.

The annual Fifa report for 2003 shows that the governing body took around $1.12billion from television rights for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea.

Deloitte estimates that for the next summer’s World Cup $1.1billion will come from Europe alone, accounting for 60 per cent of the total.

The sale of rights in Latin America and Asia will bring in approximately $200million each with the Middle East, Africa and Oceania accounting for another $50million each.
