Following a £100,000 loss in 2003/04, the governing body of English rugby union saw its total revenue increase from £72.3million to £84.8million.
It gives the RFU a solid financial footing for reconstruction of Twickenham's South Stand.
RFU chief executive Francis Baron added: "We have been able to distribute a record amount of £18.9million to member clubs, an increase of 16 per cent on last year.
The RFU has also invested £1.6million in club development projects and £7million has been raised from other sources for investment in the community game.
With a net worth of more than £105million, it is the richest governing body in the sport.
Losses the previous year were because the 2003 World Cup in Australia meant that none of the European nations hosted internationals during that November.
