The organisation's role is to promote London as the world’s most exciting city, targeting domestic and overseas leisure and business visitors as well as Londoners.
“London is the powerhouse of tourism to the UK with three out of four visitors to the UK coming via the city,” according to Tamara Ingram, chair of Visit London, who added “both the capital and Visit London are strategically placed to maximise the tourism benefits the Games will bring.
“As a key member of the Tourism 2012 Group, we are looking forward to leading on the Olympic strategy for London and acting as the interface between LOCOG [the Olympic Games organising committee] and the tourism industry.”
James Bidwell, CEO of Visit London, said: “The Olympic opportunities start now and the market opportunity is huge. With events like the New Year’s Eve fireworks and the Olympic Torch Concert, we are already creating a highly effective global communications platform for London.”
He added: “Visit London has already seen an increase in business and conventions enquiries since London won the Olympics and we expect this to increase over the coming years.”
