In a statement issued jointly by British Racing Driver's Club (BRDC) chairman Stuart Rolt and president Sir Jackie Stewart, the club said the nine tenders will be reduced to 'three or four' ahead of final presentations.
The UK's Sunday Times newspaper said those bidding include Bill Archer, who landed a huge windfall from the sale of his Wickes DIY chain, and Anschutz Entertainment Group, which is behind the revamp of London's Millennium Dome
Other bidders named by the newspaper were St Modwen, MEPC and Spectre Developments.
The £600million re-development includes plan for a rail link, an extended technology park and leisure facilities.
The circuit hosts Formula One's British Grand Prix.
