LEE MOVES ON FROM LONDON 2012

London 2012 communications director Mike Lee is quitting the role at the end of November to set up a new PR agency.

Lee was central to the communications strategy behind London’s successful bid to stage the 2012 Games, a programme which has been praised for its sophistication.

Bid leader Lord Coe said: "Mike has made a fantastic contribution, particularly in communicating our plans to the media."

Lee, who previously worked for UEFA and the Premier League, is setting up a global sports PR firm in London, and may handle Olympic bids from other cities.

Jackie Brock-Doyle, currently head of public relations & media, will take responsibility for the communications role at LOCOG, the London organising committee for the Games.

In an interview with SportBusiness after the Singapore victory, Lee – who has a background in political PR - hinted that it had been the electoral nature of the bid contest which had most engaged him, leaving observers to question whether he would be happy with the very different challenges of the continuing communications role.

Lee told the BBC: "The London 2012 campaign has been a great experience. Winning on 6 July was the most wonderful feeling and professionally my proudest moment."
