A World XI faced world number side Australia for three one-day games and a six-day Test match earlier this month, but met with only a lukewarm response from fans, with many of the matches far from sell-outs.
ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said: “We need to go away and assess the concept, see what we can improve and whether we want to do it again.
"We've never actually said how often the series will be held."
Australia won all the matches, prompting suggestions future tournaments may simply pit the top two national teams in the future.
The Super Series may have made its one and only appearance on the international cricket calendar after ICC chiefs admitted it had yet to decide whether the idea would be repeated.
