The British Racing Drivers' Club, which owns the circuit, is looking for investors to take on the task of overhauling the venue.
It hopes the investment will make the circuit the home of British motorsport.
The track has suffered criticism in recent years and came close to being stripped of its place on the Formula One calendar, before a last-minute five-year deal was agreed in December with F1 commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone.
The BBC reports that financial advisors KPMG Corporate Finance are to assess bids from groups said to include British Land, Hilton Group and Helical Bar.
