Tagged in

Teenage golf sensation Michelle Wie is to turn professional and sign for the William Morris Talent Agency, with lucrative endorsement contracts expected to follow.

By not signing with a a specialised sports agency such as IMG, the move is seen as an indicator that the 15-year-old and her advisors hope she can transcend her sport through modelling contracts and involvement in showbiz.

On turning professional Wie is expected to earn anything from $10million a year to $40million.

The Korean-American is expected to sign a contract with sports goods company Nike for $5million a year, with a similar sum likely to arise from a deal with Japanese electronics giant Sony according to the UK's Daily Telegraph.

Additional earnings could arise from a reported deal with an airline, and any later launches of clothing and jewellery ranges.

Wie has not won any tournaments since a minor US title win aged 13, but, had she played as a professional on the LPGA tour this year, she would have earned £390,000.
