PREMIER LEAGUE CHIEFS CONCERN OVER CROWDS DIP

A worrying drop in the numbers of soccer fans attending English Premier League matches is to be probed by league officials it has been confirmed.

Amid mounting concerns that saturation TV coverage and soaring match-day ticket prices are driving fans out of the stadiums, a working group spearheaded by league chief executive Richard Scudamore is set to examine just what has gone wrong.
Only one game in last weekend’s league programme was sold out – Charlton Athletic versus London rivals and champions Chelsea – and that only sold its final ticket 48-hours before kick-off.
Blackburn chairman John Williams, a member of the group examining the issues, said: "The Premier League has had 10 great years, a fantastic success story, but we are certainly going through the doldrums now.
"The wheels have not come off but the product does need a good service - it needs tweaking rather than major surgery."
