EGYPT 2006 UNDER SCRUTINY

Egypt's ability to host next January's African Cup of Nations soccer tournament comes under scrutiny today (Monday) as part of a self-assessment of preparations.

Concern from the media and the public has forced an inspection tour of facilities to be headed by Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sport, Dr Mamdouh El Beltagy.

He will be joined by officials from the 2006 Nations Cup's Local Organising Committee (LOC), CAF director of communications Suleiman Habuba as well as local and foreign media representatives, reports BBC Sport.

Early on Monday, the group starts its tour in the Egyptian capital with a visit to the Cairo Stadium, which is currently being refurbished, before travelling some 120 kilometres to Ismailia to inspect the stadium there.

The delegation next travels to Port Said, a city some 220 kilometres north-east of the capital.
