NEW COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR TO LIFT HEARTS

Scottish Premier League club Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) has appointed Alasdair Russell as its new commercial director.

Russell was formerly head of marketing at the Scottish Rugby Union where he was responsible for £8million-worth of revenue. He managed all marketing aspects including ticketing, promotion, advertising, direct mail and internet.

As Heineken Cup Final director for Scottish Rugby, he was responsible for the fastest selling final ever and attracting a record crowd at Murrayfield for an all-French final.

As tournament director for the IRB U21 Rugby World Cup in Scotland, he helped generate a record total crowd of 50,000 for the games.

He has also held marketing positions at Coca Cola Enterprises Ltd and Tetra Pak UK.

His new responsibilities at Hearts will include expanding the football club’s commercial activities to generate additional revenues through sponsorship, ticketing and hospitality.
