STADIUM SCHEME SEEKS PLANNING PERMISSION

The multi-million dollar redevelopment of Irish soccer and rugby stadium Lansdowne Road is due to start in 2007 – with work completed by 2009, a year later than originally expected.

The venue is set to undergo a $300m face-lift with stadium chiefs due to seek planning permission for the work by the end of the year.
Said Philip Browne, chairman of the Lansdowne Road Stadium Development company following a meeting with both the Irish rugby and soccer authorities: “Currently the architects are putting the final touches to the design while our project managers are finalising a detailed costing. We hope to be in a position to show the proposed designs to our many different stakeholders in the next month.”
He added he believed they had ‘more than met’ the challenges posed in creating a 50,000 state-of-the-art all seater stadium on the Lansdowne Road site.
