CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RIGHTS FOR IRELAND

RTE and Setanta have been granted broadcast rights from 2006 to 2009for the UEFA Champions League.

Free-to-air broadcaster RTE will broadcast two live matches per week - the first choice match on Tuesdays and the first choice match on Wednesdays. It will also show highlights and magazine programmes. Pay-TV broadcaster Setanta has been awarded the rights to the other live matches, plus highlights and magazine programmes.

RTE is IrelandC-s state broadcaster and is UEFAC-s current broadcast partner for Wednesday night matches. Setanta meanwhile has been the broadcaster of UEFA Champions League matches in North America since 2003 and is now a fast-growing pay-TV operation in Ireland.

The Setanta Sports Channel Ireland was launched in 2005 and is carried on all major multi-channel platforms. UEFA CEO, Lars-Christer Olsson, thanked TV3 for its six seasons covering the Champions League.
