Soccer’s world governing body says it will investigate “multiple ownership of clubs by a single individual or organisation, political interference in football, non-respect of the established hierarchy in football and the decisions taken by official bodies at various levels, as well as bribery and betting”.
A consultative body met yesterday (Tuesday) at FIFA headquarters in Zurich to address what it describes as “a number of sport's political problems that exist in modern football”.
Chaired by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, the meeting was also attended by senior figures at UEFA including its president and FIFA vice-president Lennart Johansson and UEFA CEO Lars-Christer Olsson.
Blatter will submit a proposal to the FIFA Congress in Marrakech on September 11-12 that a special task force be set up to examine the issues in more detail.
