NEW ORLEANS SAINTS SEEK HOME VENUE

With the new NFL season days away, the New Orleans Saints are reported to be considering two options on where to play their home games in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

They are Louisiana State University’s Tiger Stadium and the Alamodome in San Antonio. A third option is to play all of their games on the road.

The team has moved its centre of operations to San Antonio after the Superdome and most of New Orleans was destroyed by the hurricane.

The Saints play their firs game on Sunday at Carolina. Their second game, which was supposed to be their home opener, has already been moved to Giants Stadium, home of their opponents, the New York Giants, but the date has not been announced.

USA Today reports that everyone involved in the Saints, and their families, fled New Orleans a few days before Katrina hit.

The Alamodome seats about 60,000 for football and has only a few dozen luxury suites.

Major League Soccer has joined other sports to support the relief effort.

Players, including members of the US national team and Mexican national team, are contributing autographed game-worn jerseys that will be auctioned to raise funds.
