CHANNEL 4 ENJOYING CRICKET FEVER

Channel 4 achieved its best figures in seven years of cricket coverage with an audience peaking at 7.7 million on Monday evening for the climax to the third npower Test between England and Australia.

The UK free-to-air broadcaster enjoyed a 42 per cent share of all people watching TV at the time, as England failed to capture the last Australian wicket to win the Test.

It follows a 4.1 million audience and 44 per cent share on the Sunday lunchtime of the previous Test match at Edgbaston.

The previous high for Channel 4 was the climax to England's victory at Lord's over the West Indies in 2000, which attracted 5.2 million viewers.

It is the free-to-air broadcaster's last season covering Test cricket in England before the contract passes to pay-TV channel Sky Sports.
