AWARDS CEREMONY FOR GRASSROOTS INITIATIVES

Sportsmatch, a scheme designed to attract funding for grassroots programmes, holds its annual awards ceremony at the City of Manchester Stadium on November 17.

The UK government-funded scheme helps organisations in England attract funds from business sponsors. It then matches sponsorships, on a pound-for-pound basis, for approved initiatives.

Guest of honour will be Richard Caborn MP, Minister for Sport, who will present awards to organisations and sponsors selected as examples of best practice in community sports sponsorship during 2004-2005.

Other guests include representatives from sport from across England.

Mike Reynolds, director, Sportsmatch, said: “Nearly 400 projects received awards last year and already this year the number of applications to us has been significantly higher, indicating a healthy sponsorship climate.

“The 2012 London Olympics announcement is also generating enthusiasm for grassroots sport and I expect that we will see a further increase in applications over the next year.”
