The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has signed an agreement with Total Sports Asia (TSA) to market and distribute the TV, mobile, home video, broadband and Internet archive rights through Asia (ex-Japan) over the next four years.
TSA - the new Asian rights holder - has recently signed an agreement with British Telecom (BT) for a fully managed broadcast distribution service to Asia, for the US Open tennis championships.
The dedicated uplink service and satellite link will enable TSA to deliver a dedicated Asian feed which it is said will better cater for the needs of broadcasters and fans in Asia.
It has also agreed TV deals with UBC & BBTV (Channel 7) in Thailand and long-term deals with Astro in Malaysia, Hong Kong Cable, Solar Entertainment in the Philippines, Starhub in Singapore and Ten Sports in India and VCTV in Vietnam.
The mobile content division is working closely with Speedcast Ltd (Hong Kong) to bring the US Open to Asian mobile users.
The TSA Mobile marketing division has recently struck deals on mobile content delivery rights with several providers, including Solar Interactive in the Philippines, Phoneytunes.com in India and iCable Hong Kong. It is said to be close to signing deals in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.
