ACTION SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS MAKE UK DEBUT

The LG Action Sports World Championships are to be held in Manchester, UK - the first time the championships have been held outside of the United States.

They take place at the Manchester Evening News Arena, Manchester from 21 to 23 October, 2005.

Over 300 of the best pro and amateur skateboarders, BMX riders and inline skaters from around the globe are set to compete.

Athletes qualify for the event based on results from a 14-city global tour, including stops in Seoul, Barcelona, Beijing, Moscow and Los Angeles. The top 50 pros in each sport qualify for the championships and the chance to compete for the biggest prize pot in urban sport history of £367,000.

The championships will also feature a host of other activities throughout the weekend, including performances from top-name live bands, FMX (freestyle motocross) exhibitions and a video game and technology centre.

The event is owned and organised by ASA Events, the world’s largest action sports and television production company.

More than 50,000 visitors are expected to make their way to Manchester and the event will generate a minimum of 16 hours of global television coverage distributed to more than 180 countries, including terrestrial coverage in the UK on Channel 4.
