SATELLITE RADIO SIGNS US OPEN DEAL

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has agreed a broadcast and marketing partnership with XM Satellite Radio.

It sees XM become the first and exclusive satellite radio broadcaster for the US Open and US Open Series. For the first time, XM will broadcast live radio coverage of the US Open men's and women's singles finals and semi-finals, as well as US Open Series highlight packages to its 4.4 million subscribers.

The new three-year partnership began with the first of its summer-long weekly reports from the US Open Series - the North American summer season of 10 ATP and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournaments linked to the US Open.

These shows will feature exclusive programming from the tournaments, including reviews and previews, in-depth interviews, and the latest US Open Series Bonus Challenge standings. The reports will air across XM’s sports, news, and talk channels during the US Open Series.

“This new partnership with XM represents another breakthrough for the sport in the US and another way to further connect tennis with a broader fan base,” said Arlen Kantarian, chief executive, professional tennis, USTA.

XM’s marketing programme will include presence at the US Open, including an on-site product booth at the USTA National Tennis Center, banner ads on USOpen.org, and print advertising in USTA Magazine and in the US Open Programme.

It will also sponsor Arthur Ashe Kids' Day presented by Hess, the full-day tennis and music festival for children and families on Saturday, August 27.
