AUSTRIA AND SOUTH KOREA HEAD RACE FOR 2014

Bids from PyeongChang, South Korea, and Salzburg, Austria, are said to hold big leads over five other rivals in the race for the 2014 Olympics.

According to the Around the Rings Olympics Bid Power Index, which looks at technical aspects of the bids across 11 categories, PyeongChang and Salzburg are in a tie, with ratings of 75. The rest of the field is well behind with Sochi leading a pack scoring in the 50s.

Other contenders include Almaty and Sofia; bids from Jaca and Borjomi linger in the 40s.

However, aroundtherings.com admits there is some information lacking at this stage, even for repeat bidders such as PyeongChang, Salzburg, Jaca and Sofia.

The International Olympic Committee vote is set for July 2007, at the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala.
