The RCA, representing itself and its 29 racecourses, and the BHB praised the judgement which overturns the Office of Fair Traiding (OFT) infringement decision on the attherace media rights agreement.
It is the first time such a decision has been overturned by the Competition Appeals tribunal.
The OFT claimed that the manner in which certain audio-visual rights had been marketed – the non-licensed bookmaking offices broadcasting rights - had breached competition law.
The RCA and a number of racecourses disagreed. BHB appealed in its capacity as the governing body of British horseracing.
The decision is now likely to have an implication in the upcoming High Court case between attheraces and the RCA.
Stephen Atkin, the RCA chief executive said: “It was always disappointing that racing was forced to contend this issue and its resolution is very good news for racecourses and racing generally.”
