The club's president Joan Laporta has apparently lined-up a possible replacement sponsor should the $22m-a-season deal to promote the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games fail.
Reports in Spain quote Laporta as saying: "We're not in any special hurry and we don't want to jump the gun but it would be nice to have it all sorted out before the new season starts."
The five-year deal will see the Games promoted and then the city of Beijing.
Barcelona soccer chiefs say they hope to have the club's historic first shirt sponsorship deal in place before the end of the season after delays in signing off the contract.
