The Premier League's endorsement is significant because the league would supply most of the players for the Under-23 competition. Of the four national Football Associations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) only the Scottish Football Association is now known to oppose the plan.
"I would like to see a British team," Scudamore stated. "The Premier League were supporters of the bid and in practical terms, we will do everything we can to make sure the Olympics are as good as they can be."
Scudamore also indicated that he was prepared to delay the start of the 2012 Premier League season so as not to clash with the Games.
