ENGLAND NETBALL NAMES FRANCHISES

England Netball has named the eight team franchises, which will take part in its new "Superleague" competition, scheduled for October 2005.

The successful applicants and provisional team names are: Bedsmet Mavericks (Eastern Region); Brunel Hurricanes (London and South East region); Leeds Met Carnegie ( Yorkshire and Humberside Region); Loughborough Lightning (East Midlands Region); Northern Thunder (North West region); Team Bath (South and South West region); Team Northumbria (North East region), Welsh Netball (by invitation).

"The successful franchises have put together comprehensive and exciting plans to bring top quality netball to our key regional centres," said Nigel Holl, England Netball performance director." I am thrilled at the benefits that the Super League will bring to netball right across the UK."

Each franchise operator was required to provide a detailed breakdown of its planned operating procedures, playing and coaching staff, training and match facilities and promotional plans, as well as the team's intended development work within its local area to recruit new players, coaches and umpires.
