The programme for the Olympic Truce, which was launched by TOROC last week, will be backed up by a United Nations resolution, which will be presented to the United Nations in New York in early November 2005.
"Since 1992, when the IOC launched the first Olympic Truce initiatives, the UN has supported us in our endeavour to bring "Ekecheiria" or Truce to the world during the period of the Olympic Games," commented IOC president Jacques Rogge. " I hope that this resolution and these initiatives for the Turin Games will once again find an echo in the world community."
The programme of Olympic Truce initiatives will last from September 2005 until the Games open in February 2006.
