Police had threatened to close Wigan’s JJB Stadium until the bill, for police services, was settled. Wigan's opening match of the season against Chelsea was under threat.
But BBC Radio Five Live understands the dispute will soon be resolved.
GMP's assistant chief constable Steve Thomas had warned the club it had until 1 August to settle the debt.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has been reluctant to pay, saying the charges were not in line with other teams in the area.
He said Wigan were charged £44,000 to police last season's home match versus Leeds United while Preston North End - which comes under Lancashire Police's jurisdiction - was charged just £7,000 when they played the same opponents.
He said a Home Office investigation was under way into police charges for football matches across the UK.
