The current deal between the teams and Formula One Management ends in 2007 and 10 teams are threatening to launch their own series from 2008 because they are unhappy at the way that revenues are distributed.
Ferrari angered the other teams in January by unilaterally signing to stay with F1 on preferential terms.
Red Bull, whose drivers are David Coulthard and Christian Klien, were formed out of the ashes of the Jaguar team, which was sold to Red Bull by Ford last autumn.
A spokesman for the manufacturers, formerly grouped under the GPWC banner, said the group's strategy would not change as a result of the Red Bull decision.
Some see the threatened rival series as more of a bargaining ploy than serious intent, with the carmakers seeking the bulk of the revenues to make their teams self-financing.
