East left his post with the UK network this week after his contract expired, reports broadcastnow.co.uk
He had been with the satellite giant for a decade, joining from ITV soon after Sky won the rights to the Premier League. He will not be replaced at Sky.
He will now take up the new role of director of sport at Setanta as part of plans by the broadcaster to increase its sports output.
It already runs seven TV channels and owns the rights to tournaments including the Scottish Premier League.
