AUSTRALIAN A1 GRAND PRIX TEAM REVS UP

The Australian A1 Grand Prix franchise has appointed its management team and the companies that will provide marketing and promotional support.

Chairman of the Australian A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Alan Jones, confirmed Rod Paech’s appointment as general manager and Greg Eaton as race/operations director.

Marketing and public relations services will be provided by ICON International Communications, with advertising support from Singleton Ogilvy & Mather.

STW Sports and Events are responsible for sponsorship procurement and Elite Sports Properties for corporate hospitality.

The Australian leg of the motor sport’s new series has been set for November 4-6, 2005 at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Raceway. Australia’s A1 Grand Prix of Nations will be the fourth in a series of 12 races staged across six continents from September 2005 to March 2006.

Jones, the 1980 Formula One world drivers' champion, said: “A1 Grand Prix is a great innovation, like nothing ever seen before in motor racing. Billed as ‘The World Cup of Motorsport’, we are confident Australians will get right behind their national team and support it, just as they do with other major events where our country is represented.

“Planning for the event is now in full swing. The New South Wales Government has been totally supportive and the involvement of Tourism New South Wales is a major asset. They have committed to taking a significant role in promoting the event, both to fans throughout Australia and in the Asia-Pacific region.

“The management team we have drawn together has an enviable history within motorsport in this country, combining many years experience within Formula One, Touring Car racing and other disciplines of the sport,” he added.

Official announcements regarding the drivers for A1 Team Australia, ticketing and TV broadcast rights are expected in the coming weeks.
