At a press conference, Jim Sloman and Rod Sheard, Australian consultants to the London bid, upset the Paris team by saying the Stade de France was not ideal for athletics.
But the BBC reports that Paris will let the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decide whether the comments contravened bidding rules.
And London officials have played down the comments, saying Sloman and Sheard were experts not currently connected to the bid.
Under strict bidding rules, rival cities are prevented from directly criticising each other.
IOC members will choose the venue for the 2012 Games in Singapore and the City State is set for an avalanche of sporting, media and political personalities as each of the bids brings out its heaviest guns for the final showdown.
It is also full of journalists desperate for stories ahead of Wednesday’s announcement which will be broadcast live on TV worldwide.
Paris (2-9) and London (4-1) remain the favourites with bookmakers Ladbrokes and Paddy Power.
The Stade de France, in the St Denis area of Paris, was built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup and is now a multi-purpose venue used for sports including rugby and moto-cross as well as athletics.
However there was some criticism of its configuration for athletics when it hosted the 2003 world championships.
